The Putter With The Shiny Red Nose
One of the most important moments in a golfer’s game is the putting. It
is almost a game unto itself, with completely different components than
that of the driving or fairway shot parts of the sport. One has to have
precise control and absolute torque and speed. Having the proper putter
can make or break a golfer’s game. New concepts for putters and clubs
are always being created and tested. Companies ranging from Nike to PING
are constantly trying to provide new ways for golfers to improve their
game. One new and very unorthodox creation to come out of the
imaginative minds at Nike is the Nike Method Core Concept Putter. This
is a mid-mallet putter with a design that stands apart from the rest.
The standout may not be in the golfer’s game improvement but of its
aesthetic and architectural design. The head of the mallet consists of
bright red aluminum. While on the back is a D-shaped black bar that
connects from the head of the putter to the steam. The idea behind this
design is that the head/face is startlingly light and is able to get the
ball going exceedingly fast. No part of that ability is due to the
d-shaped handle mentioned earlier. This D-shaped bar gives the pallet
and added weight from behind. The face is considerably lighter than that
of the back and bar. With the face weighing somewhere around 90 grams
and the back weighing in about 200 grams, it can really get the ball
rolling with minimal impact.
The mallet has a large face which allows golfers to recover from hitting the ball in a less than sweet spot. The face is also built slim so as to reduce tread, yet still giving it the effect of a big mallet. This is a great putter for long distance as with the additional weight of the D-shaped bar give the use much more distance control over the put.
Most golf enthusiast will really enjoy this putter’s light weight, torque control and ability to make long distance putts more successful. However that being said just as many will enjoy this capability many will find it harder to judge distance and speed because of the putters design.
Another possible turn off for some golfers will be the putter’s flashy appearance. Between the D-shaped bar and the vibrant red face some may find it a little too showy when whipping it out on the green.
However as with all new tools one must practice. Practicing with the club and getting a feel for its weight and abilities will take a little time. However once the golfer has gotten a feel for the club and makes the proper swing adjustments the putter will feel like an extension of the arm. So whether practicing at the nearby local golf course or at Thousand Hills Resort, golfers will find this new putter and added tool to their game and something for onlookers to marvel at for its design.
